1) Who is César Mayol?

César Mayol is the head of Ibizaloe. After completing my degree and a masters I embarked on this lovely project, which was very well received right from the start and began with only one product, the 99% pure aloe vera gel. My marketing experience with Coca-Cola meant we were able to launch Ibizaloe just like a major brand, which gave us the chance to make it known internationally very quickly.

2) What makes your project special?

It demonstrates the true properties of aloe vera from Ibiza. When we analysed it, we found it had more properties than others because of the microclimate and the soil here on the island. That’s why we supply products that are completely ecological and certified to international standards (Ecocert, Cosmos).

Their main ingredient really is fresh aloe vera juice from our own plantations. We have a wide range of cosmetics for both women and men, plus a section concentrating on health, including pure juice for drinking. We have a number of our ownpoints of sale in the Balearic Islands, and we distribute both nationally and internationally as well as through our online shop (www.ibizaloe.com), with orders sent out all over the world.

This year's news is that we've opened a museum on one of our plantations about the history and uses of aloe vera. We also show visitors how to cut the leaves correctly, like our ancestors used to do, and they can sample the products.

3) Why Ibiza?

All my roots are in Ibiza and what could be better than creating something that’s good for the environment and publicises Ibiza’s aloe vera, which I think is the best in the world. Ibiza’s natural surroundings offer some amazing things, you just have to know how to get them.

4) Ibiza is…

The place where I was born and where I’ll spend the rest of my life.

5) The Ibiza of the future...

I’d like to see a more energy efficient and environmentally aware Ibiza.

6) Suggestions to make Ibiza more sustainable...

I believe in controlled and ongoing growth; we have to realise that the island has limits in terms of population and infrastructure. We can’t lose perspective and we must define where we want to go.
